Man arrested following Colne lead theft

A Colne man arrested following a lead theft has been released on police bail while further enquiries are made.

Police confirmed that they received a call relating to an incident at Trojan Plant Services at 11-50pm on Monday, August 18th.

The offender had been seen trying to steal lead on the roof of the Greenfield Road site, but had jumped down and run away carrying ladders once disturbed. He was wearing a blue jacket and black balaclava.

Another call came in from another member of the public five minutes later, when a group of approximately four people could be seen on the same roofing system.

A police helicopter and dog patrol was called out, and one offender was found hiding in a compound. He was arrested, interviewed and later bailed.

Sgt Shaun Pearson, of Pendle Police, said: “People may well have seen an increase in police activity in the area. If they have seen anybody running off - we believe them all to be local males - then let us know.

“It is not just the theft of lead, but it is all the extra damage that gets caused while they are up there as well.”

Anybody with information can contact police on 101.
