The community is set to come together this weekend to help raise money for a brave Colne youngster who is currently in remission from leukaemia.

A fund-raiser for Morgan Hewitt (10), who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in July 2012, will be held at the Cotton Tree Inn in Winewall on Sunday from noon to 4pm.

Having had a holiday cut short in August due to contracting shingles, it is hoped money raised can be put towards another trip for the Park Primary School pupil and her family. A voucher for a Haven Holiday to Cala Gran Holiday Park has been secured for September 1st.

The event, which will include activities for the whole family, is being organised by one of Morgan’s mum’s close friends Tracy Anderson.

Tracy, a mum-of-nine, wants to give Morgan, her mum Cat, and her younger brother Blake (6) a holiday to remember - after their last venture, funded by children’s charity Starlight, had to come to an abrupt end.

Tracy (34) said: “The day after they landed in Scarborough, Morgan was really poorly, and had come out in a rash.

“She got taken to Scarborough Hospital, where she was told she had shingles - which is really dangerous to Morgan. She was transferred across to Airedale Hospital, and the holiday was completely abandoned.

“Morgan is brilliant and just takes everything in her stride. She is just a really great girl, and we have got to do this for her.

“She has come such a long way, and she just wants to live a normal life without having to go to hospital.”

Among other activities, the fund-raiser on Sunday is set to include a variety of stalls and a raffle.

All money raised will be put towards well-deserved spending money and travel costs.

Tracy, who has been friends with Cat for 17 years and who is hoping to organise another fund-raiser for Morgan at Hallowe’en, added: “Hopefully it will be a good day and people will turn up. Morgan is really excited about it now, as she didn’t think it was going to happen.

“She was blaming herself about the other holiday. Cat has been really overwhelmed by all the support.”
