A shop in Barnoldswick closed its doors for the final time on Saturday after 25 years of trade.

Bodycare, which has been at the same Church Street location for a quarter of a century, ceased to have a Barnoldswick branch when it closed on Saturday.

Manager Maggie Scott has been at the helm for 23 of the 25 years. She said: “I’ve seen a lot of change and it’s quieter these days.

“People who went to the electric board and the gas board to pay their bills would pop in to buy items but that doesn’t happen any more.

“It’s no longer on the main shopping route, that’s the town square. There’s been a lot of change with internet shopping too and people who used to come in for household goods get them in their main shop now.

“I’ve had a lot of lovely customers shopping here down the years and I would like to thank all of them.

“I’d also like to thank all the staff and students who have helped me out in the past and Graham and Margaret Blackledge.”

Saturday was also change for Maggie’s daughter Kim (17) who has been helping out in the shop after finishing school.

She said: “We live above the shop as well and it’s all I’ve ever known. It’s a sad day.”

Both have moved to a new home in Barnoldswick and Kim is preparing to start an animal care course at Craven College in September.
