A former soldier from Barnoldswick is set to run in the UK’s biggest half marathon to raise support for blind military veterans.
Former Lance Corporal Adrian Lilley, who is now a Detective Constable with the West Yorkshire Police, will take part in the Great North Run on Sunday in aid of Blind Veterans UK.
Adrian (48) said: “Blind Veterans UK do amazing work. Sight loss can affect any current or ex-service men and women throughout their lives, so it’s important blind veterans are supported by any means necessary.”
Adrian served in the Royal Anglian Regiment from 1986 to 1994, stationed in the United Kingdom and Germany as well as serving in Northern Ireland.
He is an active member of the Tri-Service Scooter Club, who are fund-raising for Blind Veterans UK this year, and he volunteers with the Army Cadet Force as a Cadet Instructor.
Adrian added: “As I have not run for a while the Great North Run will be quite a challenge – one I’m happy to take on for such a good cause.”
