Hundreds of music lovers flocked onto Colne’s Millennium Green to enjoy hours of free entertainment.
This year’s GreenRock Concert has been described as the “best ever” by organisers, with many of those in attendance also taking to social media to praise the event.
It boasted a diverse range of acts, including Colne’s new band Relic, whose lead singer (16) also turned out to be an assured saxophonist.
Being only their second gig, with their first being at the recent Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival, the group astounded festival-goers with their professionalism and talent.
Other performers to wow the crowds included Walter Mitty’s Head, Mad Jack and The Hatters, Daisy and The Cultivators. Big Belly Hi Fi and Drum Machine were also well received.
Events Committee Chairman Coun. Dorothy Lord, said: “We started off with disappointing fine drizzle and we feared our GreenRockers might stay away, but the clouds cleared and by the time Len took to the stage we were blessed with glorious autumnal sunshine.
“Families flooded the Green and during Vicky and The Big Combo the atmosphere was electric. I think it was the best GreenRock ever.”
GreenRock is Colne’s only free music festival and is hosted by Colne Town Council’s Events Committee. Colne Tyre Centre sponsored GreenRock 2014 – the first time the event has attracted a sponsor – and owner, Azhar Iqbal, provided free hot drinks to GreenRockers at his centre during the morning.
Adam Tennent, who is a co-opted member of the Events Committee, was responsible for booking all the bands as in previous years. This year, he pitched his giant teepee style marquee at the end of the Millennium Green and this proved to be a popular base for stalls from local businesses and community organisations. There was also plenty of entertainment to keep the youngsters occupied, with magician Peter Dean performing captivating illusions and close magic. The bouncy castle also proved to be a real hit. Coun. Sarah Cockburn-Price said: “We had some very patient children, but there were queues, so next year we are planning a much bigger one, and, given the number of requests from adults, perhaps one for them too.”
And posting on Facebook Tracey Bolton said: “Well done Team GreenRock – my little family and I had a fab time!”
Heidi Willis added: “It was a lovely day and the bouncy castle kept my lad amused for hours – thank you.”
The Events Committee welcomes those who wish to have input to GreenRock 2015 to their next meeting at Colne Town Hall on September 8th at 7pm.
