Leila Neve: ‘Are people really so blind to the needs of others?’

Hi everyone! I hope you’ve all had a fantastic summer!

We’ve been very busy and have loved spending six weeks together but are all rested and ready for our next challenges.

I’ve been reflecting on Charlotte’s issues caused by her stroke and acquired brain injury, and what it all means for her as a person.

I think the biggest thing that goes through your mind as a parent when your child becomes disabled, is to wonder and worry about what the future holds for them. We had seven years of planning education, driving, career etc. just for it all to be taken away and the future thrown into doubt.

In times like these, I tend to look to other examples of people living with similar issues. As I’ve been considering all this, I’ve been horrified to witness a small amount of the treatment which Gary Busey has received while taking part in Celebrity Big Brother.

This has been my first experience of watching the show and it’s left me terrified of what life could hold for Charlotte. Are people really so blind to another human being needing some help and support? Are we so unwilling to see past our own ego that we don’t hear someone asking for patience and understanding?

I sincerely hope that this isn’t the case but just incase people need an extra nudge, Lottie’s Army will always be fighting to raise awareness and educate as many people as possible about these subjects.

See you next month!
