Successful fund-raiser in memory of Colne teen

A successful fund-raiser complete with entertainment and barbecue treats has been held in memory of a Colne teenager.

The jam-packed event at the Union Exchange, in Market Street, was organised to raise funds for the James Goodship Memorial Fund.

James (17),a former student at Colne Park High School, died in June after getting into difficulty with friends at Lake Burwain.

Since his death, the community has pulled together in his name, hosting events and displaying his iconic pink socks in businesses, Facebook pictures and library displays.

The latest event, which was attended by his family and friends, raised an incredible £1425.60.

It is hoped funds will be put towards signs and life preservers for Lake Burwain. There is also talk of opening a memorial garden.

James’s mum Mel said: “It went really well, and a lot of people turned up to support the cause.

“There was a barbecue, various acts on stage,a DJ, auction, a raffle and a tombola.

“Andrew Stephenson came along, and was put in the stocks - he also did the ice bucket challenge while he was there.

“We had time to speak to him, and he said he could help us in getting permission for signs. He also said it may be a good idea to get school children to design the signs, which is a possibility we could look at.

“Once again the community just came together, and it was really nice to see.”
