An international manhunt is taking place for a Pendle man suspected of supplying drugs and money laundering.

Police believe Michael Donnelly, from Barrowford, is on the run in Cape Town, South Africa.

Mr Donnelly (41), who is wanted over an alleged conspiracy to supply cocaine, amphetamine and cannabis, flew to South Africa last September, said police.

Detectives say a dedicated team is working on tracking him down and it is only a matter before police find him.

Det. Insp. Martin Kane said Mr Donnelly was the “most wanted” man in east Lancashire.

“If convicted he is facing a sentence of around 15 years,” said the detective.

Six men have already been convicted for their roles in the £1m conspiracy, including another Barrowford man, 48-year-old Darren Bowling, of Colne Road.

They are due to be sentenced at Preston Crown Court next month.

Det. Insp. Kane said Mr Donnelly left for South Africa via Dubai from Manchester Airport on an Emirates flight last September.

He said: “We are also actively investigating individuals who may be assisting him while he’s on the run and if we identify anyone, they will be arrested, too.”

He added: “My message to Michael Donnelly is quite simple: make contact with Lancashire Police and give yourself up. If not, we will track you down and formally extradite you to the UK to face trial.”
