Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson is hosting a Pensioners’ Fair at St John’s Methodist Church, Albert Road, Colne from 11am to 3pm on Friday.

The aim of the day is to bring together a dozen or more key organisations that can give invaluable advice and information to pensioners, their carers and family members.

Mr Stephenson said: “I receive a high number of requests for advice, information and support every day from Pendle people, and a fair amount of these come from older people, relating to every aspect of their lives.

“I have organised this event so that key organisations are brought together in one room, giving older people the opportunity to tackle a wide range of issues in one fell swoop.”

The organisations attending include Age UK, Housing Pendle, Lancashire Fire and Rescue, CVS Communicars, Community Solutions, Moving People, Help Direct, Pension Service, University of the Third Age, Trading Standards and Healthy Lifestyles Team. The Stroke Association will be providing free blood pressure checks, and there will even be Tai Chi workshops suitable for all to get involved in!

And he said: “I have hosted very successful Pensioners’ Fairs in Barrowford and Barnoldswick in the past, so hopefully pensioners in Colne will also welcome this idea.”

There is a car park at the side of the church as well as on-street parking. Disabled access is available at the front church entrance, so it’s easily accessible for all.

The Mayor of Pendle will be in attendance, and Mr Stephenson will be available to take down details of any issues constituents may wish to gain his assistance on.

And he said: “It may well be that even with information and advice from this array of organisations, some older people will still need support to overcome the situation they face.

“These are the kind of issues I pick up every day, and the fair will be a perfect opportunity for older people to talk these issues through, and see if there is something I can do to help and support them.”
