It is at once one of the most exciting and nerve-racking times in her life – as she switches from being a full-time primary school teacher to the owner of a Barrowford nursery.
Former nursery nurse Amy Greenall has taken the plunge she has always dreamed of and bravely moved from her job at Padiham Primary School to take over the former police station, in Gisburn Road.
Over the past months, she has been transforming the space into Little Blossoms of Barrowford Children’s Nursery, and on Saturday she allowed the public to view her project for the first time.
The 26-year-old, of Castle Court, Colne, hopes to officially open at the beginning of October, and has already been receiving plenty of positive feedback and enquiries.
She said: “This is something that I have always wanted to do, which sounds a bit cliche.
“But one night I was driving past the Gisburn Road building, saw the signs, and I just thought I’ll give them a ring. It went from there really.
“I didn’t actually think it would come to this but it has.
“I am passionate about early years education - it is what I love and it is what I am good at.
“I was so happy at Padiham, I loved my job there, but I just decided to go for this.”
To begin with, there will be five members of staff working at Amy’s nursery, and she will be taking in around 45 youngsters.
There is room for her to expand in the future, but she is keen to maintain a “homely” feel for the children.
The nursery will cater to youngsters from three months to five-years-old, and will be open from 7am to 7pm Monday to Friday.
Amy added: “The building we are in is just beautiful - it is really big, light and really airy, which is great for a nursery.
“The landlord has done the building work and that side of things, but I have furnished it all in very neutral colours.
“I can’t wait to have the children in it, as it seems very quiet and far too tidy at the moment.
“I want it to be a homely place, where children are happy and relaxed. It well become what they want it to become and we will follow their interests.”
