A baby boy died from a rare genetic condition when he was six days old, an inquest was told.
Oliver Rhys Wellock’s parents, James and Samantha, had been shown the pathologist’s report before the hearing conducted in Burnley by Coroner Richard Taylor.
Oliver was born on April 18th after a normal, healthy pregnancy. He died at the family home in Peter Street, Colne, on April 24th.
Dr Gauri Batra said his sudden and unexpected death was due to a rare genetic condition, medium chain acyl-C-O-A dehydroganse deficiency (MCADD), which caused a build-up of fatty acids leading to severe hypoglycaemia.
Mr Taylor offered his sincere condolences to the couple and said his conclusion from the evidence could be nothing other than that Oliver had died from natural causes.
