People in Pendle are being invited to have their say on how the recession has affected their lives at a meeting on Monday.
The meeting will take place between 9-30am and 12-45pm at North Valley Community Centre on Birtwistle Avenue, Colne. It has been organised by the Lancashire Fairness Commission.
Subjects up for discussion will include whether people feel they have fair access to financial support, good quality, affordable private rented and social housing and good employment opportunities and training.
The issue of food poverty and how local food banks work will also be on the agenda.
Established in June, the Lancashire Fairness Commission aims to understand the practical effect of austerity on people’s lives. It looks at what organisations can do to provide support for all sections of the community to ensure everyone is treated fairly.
The Very Rev. Christopher Armstrong, the fairness commission’s independent chairman, said: “This is your chance to tell us whether you feel you are given the opportunity to live well.
“In this meeting, we want people to say whether they have access to the finance they need to help them to live well and whether there is enough good, affordable housing for their community.
“We’ll also be asking people whether they think they have access to the jobs and training they need to fulfil their potential.
“We want to ensure everyone has the same opportunities no matter where they live and by coming to this meeting, you can help us.”
Members of the Commission include county councillors, voluntary, community and faith representa! tives, academics and business leaders.
During the meeting, people will have the opportunity to listen to presentations from expert speakers and share their views.
