Fire station open day success

Nelson Fire Station has had a successful open day, with lots of people learning a great deal about safety while having fun as well.

The public were invited to go along to find out how to make their lives safer or get help rapidly.

And loads of children had fun there, too – including dressing as firefighters!

The Bradley Road station’s Service Delivery Manager Chris Waring said: “It went really well. The majority of people who came along had their families with them.

“At the event there were key fire safety messages such as hot oil and loose clothing! In addition, there were lots of fun activities.”

The station’s firefighters provided a lot of information, but there was also a team from St Annes who gave some spectacular entertainment. They are the Rope Rescue Team who can climb up and save people, and they showed their skills by scrambling up the fire station’s drill tower.

There were teas, coffees and cakes available, along with biscuits donated by Nelson firm Farmhouse Biscuits.

The guests will now have much better information on saving their lives. And Mr Waring said: “It was a great day – very successful!”
