Members of JRR Fitness on the Ravencroft Industrial Estate in Barnoldswick are ready to join the rat race.

They will braving the Men’s Health “Survival of the Fittest Rat Race” in Manchester in November in aid of Pendleside Hospice.

The team have been working hard with trainer Joe Riding and his team in preparation for their challenge with regular sessions in rain or shine, all the time being pushed to their limits.

They will be tackling the gruelling 10km course against the elements.

This is not a challenge for the faint hearted as the team will be running, climbing, scrambling and swimming through mud and deep water to get to the finish line, passing through Sport City, the Etihad Stadium, across the canal and into Clayton Vale and Phillips Park.

Diane Hutchinson, a member of JRR Fitness Rat Race team and Pendleside’s Hospice at Home Co-ordinator, said: “I started training at JRR Fitness as a 56-year-old, very unfit and a complete novice eight months ago.

“With the help of Joe and the team I have now embarked on a 12-week challenge with an amazing group of people to see just how much I can achieve.

“I work as a nurse at the hospice and for me this is the biggest challenge I’ve done in years and any help from friends, family and colleagues to help raise funds for the hospice would be fantastic!”

Samantha Bracewell, Fund-raiser for Pendleside Hospice, said: “I think they are all very brave.

“They have already received over £1,300 on their Just Giving page which is absolutely fantastic. So please keep sponsoring them and showing your support. I wish them all good luck.”
