Pendle has just been re-accredited as a Fairtrade borough.
In 2003 Pendle was the first borough in the UK to be given Fairtrade status.
Over 60 shops, cafes and guesthouses stock or serve Fairtrade in Pendle.
Coun. Sheila Wicks, vice-chairman of the Pendle Fairtrade Group, said: “Every two years we go through the reaccreditation process where we are required to demonstrate to the Fairtrade Foundation that we are continuing to grow as a Fairtrade borough and raise the profile of Fairtrade across the whole area.
“We’re proud that Pendle was the first ever Fairtrade borough in the country and we’re looking to increase the number of people stocking or serving Fairtrade.”
Pendle Fairtrade Group which includes local retailers, representatives from the area’s churches, parish councils and Pendle Council is looking for more volunteers to join so that Fairtrade in Pendle can go from strength to strength.
If you care about Fairtrade and would be interested in joining the group, contact Audrey Drinkwater on 661339 or email her at fairtrade@pendle.gov.uk.
