Pendle Council’s Environmental Health team is working in partnership with the Food Standards Agency to encourage the borough’s food businesses to reap the benefits of their high scoring food hygiene ratings.
The council regularly uses its social media channels to let the public know which businesses have recently been inspected and achieved the top score of a “5” rating.
During October and November, officers will be visiting businesses in key locations to emphasise the benefits from displaying and improving their ratings.
Philip Mousdale, Deputy Chief Executive of the council, said: “We have high standards of food hygiene in Pendle with 85% of businesses achieving a 4 or 5 rating.
“We want to see our successful food businesses benefiting from the food hygiene rating scheme, and will be emphasising the message that displaying one of the top ratings is good for business whereas not displaying may be costing valuable customers.”
Coun. David Clegg, the council’s portfolio holder for environmental health, said: “We know that many people are now looking out for the distinctive green and black ratings stickers which are issued after an inspection by the council’s environmental health officers.
“Many businesses who display their rating say it’s having a positive impact on their business in terms of customer confidence, reputation and numbers of customers.
“The food hygiene rating scheme really benefits consumers and good businesses alike.”
Food hygiene ratings can be viewed on the Food Standards Agency website www.food.gov.uk. It’s possible to search for food hygiene ratings by town, postcode or business name.
