Boom time for Mrs Bead’s venture

A West Craven woman has celebrated the first anniversary of her beading business which became an overnight social media sensation.

Rachael Brennan, of Green Walk, Earby, launched “Mrs Bead” while on maternity leave in 2013 and delivers beading classes and jewellery making parties for children.

Rachael, who is also a part-time teaching assistant at Salterforth Primary School and leading the village’s ongoing heritage project, says the venture marries together her jewellery making hobby and experience of working with children in schools.

Initially through Facebook and now her website, Rachael has seen business boom and has taken bookings across Lancashire, North Yorkshire and Greater Manchester in the last year, with at least 50 future dates in the diary already up until June 2015.

Previous events include Brownie and Guide workshops, one of which saw 500 children attend, and Rachael returned to revisit her first ever customer last week for a free birthday bash to celebrate Mrs Bead’s birthday too.

Rachael said: “This was my way of saying a huge thank you to Evie from Barnoldswick and her mum who were confident that I could deliver a fabulous party without any evidence of it. Their initial confidence in me and their subsequent feedback meant that my bookings simply spiralled beyond my belief.

“We both posted photos on Facebook which generated interest and the next girl wanted a party and it went from there.

“It’s really taken me by surprise. I’ve done more than 100 now. It’s crazy how it has taken off. I’m now looking at ways to expand the business and identify gaps in the market.”
