A man from Nelson must pay £315 after he was prosecuted for leaving his bins out after collection day. Jordan Thompson, of Bamford Street, Nelson, did not attend Pennine Magistrates’ Court but the case proceeded in his absence.
The magistrates found the case proved and fined him £200.
They also imposed a £20 victim surcharge and ordered him to pay legal costs of £95.
Coun. David Clegg, who represents Pendle Council’s waste management services, said: “People who leave out their bins long after collection day have no regard for the appearance of their neighbourhood.
“Bins left out on the streets are very unsightly and do not create a good impression.
“Not only that, but they cause obstructions which could result in accidents.
“We can and do – as this prosecution proves – take action against people who persistently do this.
“Hopefully this prosecution will make other people think twice about leaving their bins out in the future.”
