This year the Pendle Forest Model Railway Society is proud to celebrate its 50th Anniversary and their annual exhibition – on November 15th and 16th – is set to be an outstanding event well worthy of the occasion.
And the inclusion of a new model of Earby’s railway station and a lot around it will attract people.
The society’s Mr David Carter said: “Thanks to the availability of a larger hall we will have fifteen layouts – the largest collection of exhibits we have ever had, and almost certain to provide something for everyone. Almost every aspect of model railways will be on show.
“There will be gauges from N gauge to 0 gauge, trains from Modern Image to steam, British, French and American, standard gauge and narrow gauge, layouts large and small, control systems from traditional plug in controllers to Digital Command Control with sound and model construction methods varying from traditional card and plastic through to the use of a modern 3D printer.
“The society’s new N gauge model of Earby station in the 1960s will make its debut at this year’s show. Many of the buildings on this layout have been created using a 3D printer and there will be a demonstration of a 3D printer in action – fascinating to watch and amazing to see the amount of detail that can be incorporated.
“A first for us this year is the appearance of the 00 Live Steam Road Show and they will be running Hornby Live Steam locomotives on their display. Visitors will be able to try their hand at operating one of the steam driven locomotives in a session that will open their eyes to a new dimension in controlling model locomotives – a definite ‘must do’ for all model railway enthusiasts.”
Their 50th Anniversary Souvenir Coal Wagon will be available at the show – finished in light blue with the society name and logo on the sides.
There will be a range of supporting traders selling everything from train sets to kits and accessories and there will be full refreshments throughout the weekend.
The exhibition will be held at Park High School on Venables Avenue, Colne, opening on Saturday from 10am to 5pm, and Sunday 10am to 4pm.
Admission is £4 (adults), £3.50p (OAP), £2.50 (children) and £12 (Family 2 + 2). Souvenir wagons are £14 plus £3.50 postage.

Mr Carter also revealed: “We are running a colouring competition in conjunction with our exhibition. The first prize is a Mehano Pennine Freight HO train set and a Society Souvenir Wagon. The second prize will be a Society Souvenir Wagon.”
Entry is open to children aged 12 and under. All entries must be submitted at the exhibition before 3pm on the Sunday.
Children submitting a competition entry will be admitted to the exhibition free of charge. They must be accompanied by one responsible adult who will also be admitted to the exhibition free of charge.
The competition will be judged on the Sunday after 3pm – if not present then, the winner will be notified by post and announced in the Nelson Leader on Friday, November 21st.
