Children had the chance to make a catch of the day during half-term week with the Pendle Fishing Buddies initiative.
Set up by PCSO Mark Hyde, three fishing buddies’ sessions were held during the half-term holiday at Boothman Park in Barley with 10 children at each one, all angling at netting the biggest haul.
The initiative was first cast in 2006 by PCSO Hyde who says the hook of it is for the police to engage with children and encourage learning in a positive environment.
PCSO Hyde said: “We had a great time and lots of fish were caught.
“The fishing is the catalyst but there is a lot more to it. Kids speak to the police and it creates good respect back and forth both ways.
“People say all we are doing is rewarding bad behaviour but it’s encouraging children to behave well with others from different ethnic and social backgrounds. The mix works well and they all get on brilliantly.”
