Police have released CCTV images of a man they are looking to speak to after an elderly woman’s purse was snatched in Nelson on Monday (17th November).

At 11:30am, the victim - an 85-year-old local woman - was boarding a bus at Nelson Interchange on Railway Street. A man has grabbed the victim’s purse as she went to pay her fare and ran off, heading through the subway towards Hibson Road.

Officers are appealing for anyone who recognises the man to come forward.

DC Craig Livesey from East CID said: “I believe this was a targeted, callous attack on an elderly woman who prior to the incident, had been shopping in Nelson town centre and Pendle Rise shopping centre.

“I ask anyone knows this man or has any information to get in contact with us.

“I would also urge anyone out and about doing their shopping to remain vigilant and keep their belongings close to them and away from sight, particularly in the run up to the festive season when people are doing their Christmas shopping.”

Anyone with any information can contact Police on 101 quoting incident reference number 0433 of 17 November.

Alternatively, they can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at {http://www.crimestoppers-uk.org|Crimestoppers-uk.org} No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to court.
