This year’s Christmas Lights Switch On event in Barnoldswick has been hailed as the best ever by townsfolk.
Adding to the cheery mood was the fact Barnoldswick was still basking in the glory of its sensational result having been named as a winner in the Great British High Street Awards.
And a celebratory atmosphere saw at least 3,000 people take part in the light up parade, this after almost 1,000 hand held lanterns had been made in workshops in an action-packed afternoon last Saturday.
Also during the afternoon, entertainment had been provided by Jamba Samba and Red Rose Silver Bell Band, complementing a disco with Southern Sounds Entertainment, while hundreds of children saw Santa in his grotto and received gifts.
The theme of 2014’s Switch On was “Christmas Characters” and Barnoldswick Town Square was sardine-like with adults and children as the switch was flicked to on, illuminating the town for the festive period.
Barnoldswick Town Council Chairman, Coun. Claire Teall, said: “Thank you to everyone who helped make Barnoldswick’s Switch On event such a brilliant success.
“And thank you to everyone who donated to the Air Ambulance charities.”
The event raised £1,681 for the Town Council Chairman’s charities, the Yorkshire and North West Air Ambulances.
