A nurture room offering social, emotional and behavioural support to pupils has proved so popular at a Colne primary school that it has now had to be moved to more spacious surroundings.

The Key Stage Two Oak Room at Park Primary School was set up in November 2013, and has since been going from strength to strength.

Kirsty Rose-Parker from Pendle Leisure Trust officially opened the new space at the Rutland Street School, which was also visited by Leanne Rigby, a family support worker from Colne Children’s Centre, school nurse Andrea Soulsby, and chair of governors Ralph Latham.

Parents were invited along to see the new set-up, which now means the school can accommodate children on a full-time basis. Breakfast was served and there was also a “stay and play” session.

Learning mentor Nicola Sheridan said: “As a caring and nurturing school, we are committed and dedicated to meeting all the needs of our children, thereby helping and enabling them to reach their full potential.

“We intend and hope that our Oak Room nurture provision will continue to thrive and support many children in years to come.”

The Oak Room nurture room within Key Stage Two works closely and alongside the long-standing Rainbow nurture room within Key Stage One. Both nurture rooms form the basis of an Inclusion Team, which is led by Jo Turner - SENCO and staffed Nicola, Tracy Graham, Jemma Sinclair and Sarah Smith.
