HUNDREDS of parents and children gathered to celebrate Colne Children’s Centre’s 10-year anniversary.

Taking place at Colne Muni, the day was jam-packed with fun, including a magician, disco and face painting.

Over the past decade, staff at the Sure Start centre have worked with health, social care and education colleagues to ensure children achieve the best start in life.

Janet Davies, children centre business manager at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The 10-year celebration was an amazing event with families who have attended the centre over the years uniting on a bitterly cold day to have fun.

“It became clear Colne children’s centre really does belong to the families of Colne and it was heart-warming to see so many of them turned out. On behalf of the team I feel very honoured and privileged to be a part of the children’s centre and in touch with so many residents.”

Parents and their children attend Colne Children’s Centre for a various reasons, ranging from antenatal care, to see a dentist or get advice on health, education, training or employment. A wide range of social groups are also held, including baby massage, stay and play groups and support groups.

Dignitaries, including Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson and Mayor and Mayoress of Pendle Coun. Asjad Mahmood and Mrs Samina Khan, were among those who attended its birthday bash.

Mr Stephenson said: “Colne Children’s Centre do great work and it was great to pop along to their 10-year anniversary celebration. There were hundreds of parents and children involved in different activities and there was a great atmosphere.

“It was also good to see many of the parents who have been involved with the centre over the past 10 years attending even though their own children are now much older.”
