Pendle is fifth toughest council for food standards

Pendle Council has been named among the top-performing councils in the UK for food hygiene enforcement.

A national survey carried out a study to discover how many food outlets under a council’s jurisdiction were tested within the food hygiene enforcement guidelines.

Of the 395 councils surveyed, Pendle was ranked as the fifth most efficient with 98.5% of Pendle’s 791 restaurants, cafes and takeaways undergoing a Food Standards’ test.

The council also achieved a 100% intervention rate with the study, also finding that 96.5% of the outlets were compliant when working with the council to achieve the guidelines required by the Food Standards’ Agency.

Mr Philip Mousdale, deputy chief executive of Pendle Council, said: “It’s fantastic that Pendle ranks Number Five in the top 10 best for ensuring our local businesses comply with hygiene rules.

“This shows we take food safety very seriously and Pendle’s residents and visitors can have confidence in our restaurants, cafes and takeaways.”
