Firefighters were called out to a blaze at Wardle Storeys in Earby this morning after fire broke out in a plastic production building around 6-30am.
Five pumps attended the scene from Earby, Colne and Nelson, largely for breathing apparatus, which was needed in the heavily smoke logged building.
It is thought the fire started in the basement and while investigations continue into the cause of the blaze, it is believed it may be due to an accidental electrical fault in the building’s control panel.
The control panel was destroyed, along with cabling, and the fire had spread to some recycled plastics. It is thought it could take a week before that part of the factory is fully functioning again.
Sprinklers were activated inside the plant as jets, hose reels, ventilation units and thermal imaging equipment were also used in the operation which lasted around 90 minutes.
