A Pendle primary school found to “require improvement” by Ofsted inspectors in April has made dramatic strides forward in just 10 months, a new team of inspectors has found.
Holy Saviour RC Primary School, in Holland Place, is now classed as being “good” in terms of pupil achievement and the quality of teaching and “outstanding” for the behaviour of its pupils and leadership and management.
The two inspectors who visited the school at the end of last month found that, at the end of Year 6 last year, standards were above the national average in reading, writing and English, grammar, punctuation and spelling, and were average in maths.
Their report said: “Good teaching, with an increasing proportion that is outstanding, captures pupils’ interests so they are keen learners and their progress is accelerating.
“Caring and sharing, the motto at the heart of this inclusive school, is the foundation for pupils’ excellent spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and outstanding behaviour.
“The inspirational headteacher, skilled senior leaders, governors and staff are fully committed to an unwavering view of how good the school can be.”
Headteacher Mrs Anne-Marie Nield said: “Everyone at the school is delighted we have managed to move so far forward in such a short space of time.
“Under the new format, this is no mean achievement.
“Everyone here is thrilled with the inspectors’ findings.”
