A charity that supports the recovery of injured servicemen and women through golf is more than £4,000 better off thanks to Clitheroe Golf Club.

Last year’s club captains, Gillian Eddlestone and Paul Wood, presented former soldier Gregg Stevenson, who is now national liaison officer for the On Course Foundation (OCF), with a cheque for £4,174.

Former green beret army commando Gregg Stevenson, who served with the 24 Engineer Regiment, lost both legs in a blast in Afghanistan.

Gregg, from Foulridge, was injured in March 2009 when he stood on a land mine while on patrol in Helmand Province. Having learned to walk on prosthetic legs, he then became an ambassador for OCF, founded by Nick Faldo’s former manager John Simpson.

The only Services golf charity, OCF provides long-term benefits for wounded troops and veterans through golf providing monthly, nationwide familiarisation, skills and employment training events for its members.

The Foundation then offers practical training through work experience placements for those who wish to pursue a career in the golf industry.

The progressive structured OCF programme builds personal esteem and self-confidence, and, on completion (with OCF’s on-going support), members have the skills, knowledge and confidence to find long-term employment.
