It is believed that a man who fell to his death from Colne’s railway bridge was between 40 and 55-years-old.
Police have now confirmed the age bracket, after issuing an appeal yesterday to identify the victim. The appeal remains ongoing.
The man was discovered by a member of the public at the arches near to the Cotton Millworks, in Knotts Lane, at about 8pm on Sunday.
He is described as white, approximately 5ft. 8in. to 5ft.10in. tall, and of medium to heavy build. He is also said to have had short dark hair, which was receding and greying slightly.
He had apparently fallen or jumped from the railway bridge above and sustained fatal injuries. The death is not being treated as suspicious.
Det. Insp. Jez Holland, of Burnley Police, said that although the man might be local, there is also a possibility he could have travelled to Colne.
He said: “We don’t suspect any foul play is involved in this tragic incident but we are hoping that someone will be able to help us identify this man and take us a step closer to finding out who he is and exactly what happened to him.”
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 quoting log number 1249 of March 16th.
