Primary schools across Pendle are being invited to take part in an exciting art competition which celebrates Pendle’s 40th birthday.

On April 1st, 1974 Pendle was born, bringing together nine different district and town councils including Earby and Barnoldswick, which were previously in Yorkshire.

And Pendle Council is asking for youngsters to design a piece of artwork to mark the birth of the borough.

The overall winner will receive £200 for their school and an individual prize of a £25 book token in the competition which will be judged by the Mayor, Coun. Smith Benson.

Coun. Joe Cooney, Leader of Pendle Council, said: “We want our youngsters to help us celebrate all that Pendle has to offer.

“They could paint or draw their favourite place or show us what they like to do when they’re enjoying time with their families.

“Pendle’s a fantastic place and one thing’s for sure, we’ll continue to work passionately to make it an even better place.

“If the last 40 years are anything to go by, things won’t stand still!”

Letters have been sent to all primary schools to give details of the competition which closes on Friday, May 16th.
