Police have appealed for information after two aggravated burglaries in the same Colne street within a 10-day day period.

On the first occasion at approximately 10-30pm on Monday, March 17th, four men kicked the front door down of house in Duke Street.

An investigation has been launched after police said the four balaclava wearing men then ran into the house, one armed with a baseball bat, demanding cannabis from a terrified homeowner who tried to hide in the cellar.

When the homeowner attempted to phone the police, a mobile phone was pinched out of the owner’s hand, before the men fled the scene dropping the phone in the street.

All the men are described as between 16 and 28 and wearing dark clothing and balaclavas.

On the second occasion, at 11-30pm on Thursday, March 27th, two men armed with a handsaw kicked their way into another Duke Street house again demanding cannabis.

The two men, described as in their early 20s, wearing black jumpers, jeans and balaclavas, fled the scene when the homeowner grabbed a kitchen knife.

Insp. Paul Goodall said: “To our knowledge, there is no evidence of a cannabis crop in Duke Street.

“However, if anybody has any information that there may be illegal activity taking place, please contact 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

“Also, I would ask residents in that area to remain vigilant and if they see any suspicious vehicles or people, please report this to the police and we will respond accordingly.”
