Members of Earby Community Association are a mile further on but still have a long road ahead after an annual spring fair fund-raiser.

Saturday’s event at the New Road Community Centre raised around £900 for the Earby Community Minibus fund.

In January, the community centre group took the opportunity to purchase a minibus to replace the one that had performed 14 years of sterling service at a cost of £30,000, largely wiping out the existing fund in doing so.

Looking to the future, the community group are hoping to lay the foundations that should another bus be required in another decade or more, the funds are there to do so.

And that aim got off to a good start with numerous games, stalls and displays provided by community groups, the luncheon club serving refreshments and hot lunches and the bumper raffle which was as good as ever.

Vice Chairman Bob Abel said: “We would like to thank all those who have helped in the past and Saturday’s event was a good omen for the future.

“The event was officially opened by Mr Ken Tennant who has a long association with the New Road Community Centre.

“Ken recalled the first ever fund raising fair in 1968 and he has served on the committee ever since and more recently has been active on the minibus committee as well.

“Ken has put a lot of effort into the centre over the years and it remains close to his heart.”
