Pendle jobless figures fall

The number of people out of work and claming benefits in Pendle continues to fall.

The laterst figures show the number of unemployed claimants in Pendle in April was 1,483.

This represents a rate of 3.5% of the economically active population aged 16 to 64 and is 510 lower than in April, 2013 and 16 lower than in March, 2014.

Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson said: “The latest fall in unemployment in Pendle adds to the other positive news we are seeing, with inflation falling and growth predictions being revised upwards.

“My recent Jobs Fair saw a number of local businesses looking for new starters and apprenticeships and we are seeing government grants going to growing local employers like ACDC in Barrowford, NR Automatics in Colne and Mackintosh in Nelson.

“There is still a lot more to do to help people back into work, but this is great news for families across Pendle.”
