Figures showing the impact of alcohol on life in Pendle were presented to Pendle Council’s Executive.
The figures were contained in a quarterly report from the council’s thematic groups set up last year to replace the Local Strategic Partnership structure.
They showed:
l There were 34 alcohol-related deaths in Pendle between 2010 and 2012 – 12 female and 22 male.
l There were 2,530 people admitted to hospital with alcohol-related conditions in the same period. The figure for Lancashire was 32,460.
l Between 2011 and 2012, 92 people were admitted to hospital with liver disease, an increase of 74% from 2002/3.
l There were 529 alcohol-ralated crimes committed in 2011/12. The figure in Lancashire was 6,858.
The next meeting of the full council will be asked to discuss the introduction of a minimum price per unit for alcohol.
