After more than 30 years reading for Pendle Voice Talking Newspaper, Maureen Child has stepped down from her role as coordinator and reader.
Three decades ago, Maureen was in the Gilbert and Sullivan Society when she heard Peggy Heaton, who was later to become Mayor of Pendle, say they were short of a reader.
She answered the call and was soon taking over the role of co-ordinator and joining the committee when Peggy became ill.
Over the many years she has been reading, Maureen’s has become a familiar voice to all the listeners who receive the weekly recordings of the Leader Times Newspaper Series.
She has also recruited many volunteers, and given the training and support they needed, and was presented with a plaque to recognise and thank her for her work.
Maureen said: “I have met many wonderful people who have done a marvellous job, and I shall miss them all.”
The team of volunteer readers will continue to produce recordings of the Leader Times Newspapers for listeners in Pendle and other weekly and monthly publications.
For more information about the service, or volunteering opportunities, especially if you have good IT skills that could support the production and copying of publications, please contact Pendle Voice on 616566 or email pendle.voice@gmail.com
