Get out on the pumpkin trail!

Keep your eyes on the skies this weekend as witches return to Pendle on a secret pumpkin mission for the newly renovated Barley Mow pub-restaurant in Barley.

While the official re-opening is on Monday, November 10th, its new owners at the Seafood Pub Company couldn’t let Hallowe’en go unnoticed in such a fitting location.

They are holding a Hallowe’en pumpkin trail in the village tomorrow and will be opening the pub’s doors at 5-30pm on Friday, October 31st for drinks and a select menu for locals and Hallowe’en revellers – with a prize for the best fancy dress costume.

Matt Ward, general manager of the Barley Mow, said: “We know how important Barley is in the story of the Pendle Witches. so we have asked some friendly witches to get on their broomsticks to help us hide some special pumpkins in secret locations around the village tomorrow.

“These pumpkins will contain vouchers for food or drink to be redeemed at the Barley Mow. We are looking forward to seeing where people find the pumpkins that our witches have hidden and to welcoming the winning pumpkin hunters to the Barley Mow as we open its doors.

“We are really excited about finally opening our doors to customers and showing them what we have done to the Barley Mow.

“We have invested a lot of time and money into creating a welcoming atmosphere at the pub for locals and visitors to Pendle and we are looking forward to serving them our new proper pub menu.”

Matt and his team will be out and about in the village, planting pumpkins and posting clues via social media channels. And he did hint that one of the pumpkins might well be an uphill trek …
