Pendle Council’s Executive has agreed to the transfer of some of its services to town and parish councils across the borough.
A report to members gave three reasons for the move – the financial restrictions on the borough authority, keeping them under local control in the event of Pendle becoming part of a larger authority and the increased appetite of some town and parish councils to take on more services and facilities.
The smaller councils will not be allowed to dispose of transferred community centres and public conveniences for a period of 10 years without the prior agreement of Pendle Council.
l Members also agreed to transfer responsibility for the storage of festive season decorations to the town and parish councils.
