A “sports club surgery” could be taking place in Pendle soon, according to MP Andrew Stephenson.

Mr Stephenson was speaking after a meeting with Sport England, where he welcomed funding for sports clubs in the area.

Since 2010, Sport England has made 13 awards to groups across Pendle totalling over £400,000. The biggest award of £150,000 went to Pendle Council to improve facilities but sizeable awards have also gone to Burwain Sailing Club, Colne and Nelson Rugby Club and West Craven Warriors.

Sport England, which helps to develop sporting talent across the county, is working with Pendle’s sports clubs to spread the benefits of playing sport to a wider range of people.

It also runs the Sportivate Programme at Pendle Leisure Trust, which provides fitness membership subsidies to 17-25 year olds, who work with fitness instructors to become more active.

Mr Stephenson said: “Through this funding, Sport England is investing heavily in our local sports clubs, making it easier for people to get involved and develop their sporting talent. I learned a lot from my meeting with Sport England and we are now looking at setting up a ‘sports club surgery’ to take place in Pendle soon.”
