Local colleges have visited Colne Primet Academy to deliver workshops and presentations, preparing students for their future careers!

Students at the academy recently benefited from a day-long series of workshops and presentations, delivered by local colleges – including Burnley College and Nelson and Colne College Sixth Form – to learn all about interview techniques, post-14 pathways, post-16 options and labour market information.

The whole school got involved, from Years 7 to 11. Year 7 students found out all about “jobs in the Academy”. They interviewed members of staff and created profiles relating to their jobs.

Year 8 students had the wonderful opportunity to interview the Primet alumni who returned – 10 individuals, who travelled from the local area and even as far away as North Yorkshire, Leeds, and Hampshire!

The Year 8 students created job profiles and were informed of the varied careers the alumni have engaged in, which included solicitor, nurse, gardener, health and safety specialist, logistics consultant and sales manager!

Years 9, 10 and 11 then met with the alumni and learned all about the intricacies of their careers since leaving Primet, including the jobs they initially gained and how they progressed to their current job roles.

Sandra Tice, Careers Advisor, said: “It was brilliant to welcome back to school some of our former students and to learn of their successes. Students gained valuable information and advice by meeting and listening to our alumni talk about their careers, their businesses and their career paths since leaving Primet.”
