Barnoldswick lass Winifred Tomlinson has celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends.

Around 80 special guests attended Mrs Tomlinson’s big birthday bash held at the Rolls-Royce Leisure Club on Saturday, December 8th.

As well as enjoying a lovely day in the company of loved ones, Mrs Tomlinson also received a card from the Queen and helped raise £675 for the North West Air Ambulance.

Her son Alan, who lives in Freckleton, celebrated his 70th birthday earlier in the year and had the idea of raising money for the charity. The proceeds of Mrs Tomlinson’s party will be added to her son’s funds of £1,450 giving a grand total of £2,125.

Mrs Tomlinson was born in Settle, the eldest of six children, with two sisters and three brothers. The youngest, her brother Alfred Hocking, is 89 and lives in Skipton.

After leaving Settle High School, she was a teacher at Tosside School for many years before taking on the former corner shop on Rook Street in Barnoldswick in the late 1950s.

She kept the shop until retiring and converted it into the house she still lives in today.
